Most famous temple in China. Has 3 successive temples behind this entrance,each more impressive than the previous one. The feng shui of this location is near perfect: backed by a giant peak, and flanked on each side by 4 lower peaks, and directly facing a large body of water at the foothills. 9 Chinese emperors have retired as monks in this monastery. The temple was originally built >1,000 yrs ago, went through seveal earthquakes and rebuilding. A monumental wonder!
The 3 pagodas survived serious earthquakes, the 2 smaller ones now lean towards the middle one
